It’s hard to imagine a time without Google, with the company’s products and services so deeply entrenched in the daily lives of a lot of people. Starting from its roots as a search engine, which quickly became so popular that the word “Google” continues to be used as a verb to mean searching the internet, to its rise as the dominant force in the smartphone OS game, most of us have been lucky enough to see the rise and growth of this company. But when did it all begin, or in other words, when is Google’s birthday? Let’s find out!

Google 21st BirthDay

Google is celebrating its 21st birthday on Friday 27th Sept 2019 with an animated Doodle shown to web browsers around the world.

The company, founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998, traditionally marks its birthday on the Google homepage on September 27.

Google let the world know of its 21st birthday celebration with the aid of a Google Doodle. However, while September is the agreed-upon month, there is still some confusion with regards to the exact date. How could something like a birthday, which should be a defined day, draw confusion? Good question.

The google.com domain was registered on September 15, 1997, and the company filed for incorporation on September 4 the following year. As many would rightly consider, that does make September 4, 1998, the official birthday. However, the company has celebrated the day on September 27, which is the day a Google doodle was first used to highlight its birthday back in 2002. There are some anomalies along the way, such as the announcement of its 5th birthday in 2003 on September 8, on September 7 the following year, and on September 26 in 2005 but since 2006, September 27 has been the date that has been used to mark the occasion.

Google Birth Day

So long story short, Google’s birthday could be argued as September 4th, but Google officially celebrates September 27, 1998. We are sure there is a specific, internal reason for the 27th, but all that really matters is that Google arrived in September of 1998 and it’s been a great ride ever since.
